Molly’s Sacral Dimple
We have been keeping this little bit a news a little quiet because we wanted to make sure there was a happy ending first. When Molly was born, she had a fairly distinct dimple just above her butt. The doctors took quick notice of this at the hospital because this is a common indication of a possible spinal defect. It has a lot of names, sacral dimple is the easiest to remember. The two indications that it is something to be concerned about is that the bottom of the dimple can’t be seen and there is hair coming from it. Molly had both. So the doctors said she needed an MRI. This is a pretty scary concept since Molly would have to be anesthetized for the ~1 hour procedure. Worse, we had to wait a full month to even book the procedure because there is some rule about MRI’s before a month of age. Our doctor told us not to worry about any of it. 95% of the time, it is nothing and the 5% of the time it is something, it is a very simple surgical procedure to remedy. So, we got to a month of age and worked to schedule an MRI. And then some good news. Apparently, and MRI was not needed, just an ultrasound and an X-Ray (pictures below). Took 20 minutes, she cried a bit, then we were done.
And it was all clear!
