21 Months--Walking, Talking & Tantrums

August 2, 20099 photos

Caden is most definitely a toddler now. He is FULL of energy and is always on the go...almost every morning now after breakfast he goes and stands by the door to the garage and says “bye bye, car, car, go, go!” until he gets a response. It doesn’t matter where you’re going or what you’re doing...he wants to go anywhere with anyone.

He is a lot of fun right now and is very cute. Caden loves being outside and we spend a lot of time these days swimming, playing at the park, playing in the yard and going on walks & bike rides. He is also getting more interested in coloring and learning to do new things. He can now point to all of his different body parts and can identify most colors. Strangely he’s having a very difficult time learning what different animals say. According to him at various times all animals either moo or neigh--occasionally they baa. We recently got Caden a potty because he was interested in his friend’s. He can’t really use it yet, but he spends a lot of time on it trying...reading a book or having a drink.

He is talking more and more each day. He is just now starting to use more two syllable words--elbow & backpack are the main ones as well as lots and lots of other words. He is also still signing and is using more and more complicated signs now too which is great. To estimate I’d say he says about 50 words but can sign close to 150.

Its a good things Caden is as cute as he is because he’s a little devil a lot of the time. He generally knows what he’s allowed to do and what he’s not. In fact a lot of the time when he’s being naughty he’ll say “No!” as he does it or shut the door to the room and say “bye bye” and goes and does his naughtiness. Some of his favorite naughty activities are climbing in dangerous places, throwing food & utensils, spitting food & drawing on anything other then paper.

Caden is a very opinionated little guy. He knows what he wants & when he wants it and if you aren’t doing EXACTLY what he wants, when he wants it he lets you know. Recently he’s become very good at lifting up his legs so you can’t put him down and/or laying on the ground kicking & screaming in a full blown tantrum. The good news is our Dr says this is an advanced behavior--lucky us! One of the funny things he’s especially opinionated about are his shoes. We got him some nice sandals to wear for the summer but he WILL NOT wear them. Finally I took him to the store and he chose some very nice rubber car shoes (yuck!) but he wore them all the time until he outgrew them. Now he will pretty much only wear his crocks or snow boots.
