How to do a Sunday right
We are pretty much down to any day now before Caden makes his arrival. Naturally, there is a lot going on. We just finished up the bathroom, got the last of the baby supplies (okay, that’s a lie, but it ain’t going to get better until he gets here), and are quickly getting the house in order so it is comfortable for us when we are up all night.
But, something really great happened today. Sure, we spent most of the day cleaning and organizing, and I mean really cleaning. We cleaned in the deep dark crevasses of the house, the places where all that dirt goes when you can’t see it. The bottom side of cabinets, the inside of cupboards, the underside of ovens...incidentally, funny story about the oven. So with nothing but good intentions, I was trying to clean the oven thoroughly. Taking everything out and scraping out the inside, removing all the gunk and even removing the front door to get in-between the glass. See picture below.
This is what an oven looks like without the decorative glass. The funny part was that when I went to remove the glass, it actually just went ahead and exploded all over the kitchen. And I mean exploded. I was sitting right in front of it, Katy was in a chair next to me, as soon as I got the handle screws out...BANG! There was glass everywhere. Katy and I handled this in good form...sort of like, “Alright...want to get the shop vac? Sure, any glass in your eyes? A little...Cool. Carry on then.” So, note to all those cleaning their ovens...be careful, the glass does not like to be bent...but don’t worry, it is safety glass.
Anyway...back to my point about the great thing happening today. We woke up to our first snow of the season, we had the day to ourselves, started out with waffles with whip-cream and strawberries, and had a full 18 hours to spend with each other. People keep asking me if I am nervous about the baby, so far, the answer is not really. But the one thing that does make me nervous is that what Katy and I have together will be changing, for the better I am sure. But I am worried that we may not have as many of these days of just us anymore, even if it is just working around the house and
breaking stuff. I know Katy and I will make the effort required to keep us, us. But it may not come so easy anymore. Good lesson for everyone. Cleaning the house with your sig-nif should not be considered a chore, but one of those really great dates that you don’t seem to have anymore.
The first snow of winter!
