The never ending improvement
Prepping for Baby #2
As many of you know, I really do enjoy house projects. Any type and time, I love getting my hands dirty and improving our living space. This has had mixed results in the past, but for the most part, we like our house more and more every day. This time, I think I might have over done it. We spent a lot of time deciding what to do with the arrival of baby #2. Do we move? Do we make our house work with sharing rooms? Or is there a compromise? Katy actually thought of a brilliant compromise for our current house. It will keep us in our current home which we love and give us all room to grow (until next year when we consider moving again). The plan in brief is to take half of the laundry room and convert it into our new office. Take the old office and make it Caden’s room and take Caden’s room and make it the new nursery. Nothing too hard about any of that. But oh my heavens there have been so many pit falls on the way. A short list of other things that happen in the course of progress:
-Needed a new washer and dryer to make laundry room idea work -Dishwasher broke, needed to stop everything else and replace that -Water Heater broke, needed to stop everything and replace that -Irrigation system needed to be rebuilt on account of moving plumbing in laundry room -And mom and dad needed a new bedroom too cause we earned it! (New paint, trim, furniture, etc.)
Not to mention that it is so much harder to spend a lot of time on these projects with our already busy lives. The best part has been my new helper. Caden LOVES to get his tools and help daddy and as much as that might actually slow things down, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We have very limited pictures of our progress cause it has turned more into “hurry and get this done” and not so much lets document and enjoy this!
UPDATE! Finally got more pictures added, which means, more importantly, that most of the work is done. All the hang-ups discussed earlier have been overcome. I am actually typing this in our new downstairs office while Caden sleeps one level up in his new rom. Only item left is to get Molly’s nursery squared away. And that is simply a matter of decorating.
A lot of the reason I caught up on all this work was because of a family visit in June. Karen and her new boyfriend Mark came to visit as well Grandpa Chapman for an impromptu Chapman family reunion/meet the potential new comer to the family. Have more on the visit in the blog page (Click Here). But the important point for this page is that Mark is in construction. Took him a matter of hours to hammer out framing and drywall for the new office. With me and my dad helping out, we put this little project to rest in short order. Thanks a ton guys.
