And Darkness Falls

August 21, 20171 photos

Not going to tell you what you already know but, there was this eclipse happening state side that is a super big deal. Totality occurred a bit north of us (4 hours). First thing: it is a totally different thing to witness a 98% eclipse and a total eclipse. Not even the same thing.

Better, because we happen to know some amazing people, we made a whole weekend out of it. Our friends Jeanne and Jim opened up their family’s farm up in Wyoming for us to enjoy a whole weekend of fun. We headed up Saturday morning to Kaycee WY. There we camped on the farm enjoying a bunch of friends, hiking and cookouts. We brought Beth and Anna with us and it was great.

The next day we headed south to Casper (center line of totality) to another family member of Jeanne for the viewing party. Can’t describe the experience any other way but spiritual. Seeing the sun blocked out completely and seeing the darkness mid-day, everyone was euphoric.

Good thing too cause the drive home which usually takes 4 hours took 12!!! Worth it. All worth it. An interesting observation during a rest stop on this arduous drive home, everyone in line for the bathroom (tired, long road ahead) was just giddy about what they just saw. Young and old, all walks of life were happy to be there...even though we were going nowhere.

Some pictures here.

The big hype of the total solar eclipse happening just north of us.
