Neskowin 2013!
Our big summer trip this year was to the Oregon coast to visit Grandma Kay and Grandpa Gerry. It is only the “big” trip because it was farthest away, but still much easier than, say, camping. Anyway, like most of our trips, this one started with a 4am wake-up to hit the airport. This really is a preferred schedule when traveling with kids believe it or not. Couple of connections to Portland and we landed ready to go. We got to spend most of the day in Portland this time instead of heading directly to Neskowin. Met up with the grand ‘rents and Sarah and Kelly, played in the park, had some lunch and did some other touristy things before heading out, or down...actually to the left. On the way out we got to visit Jon’s Aunt Janet who has never met the kids, that was a great treat.
The pictures will once again summarize the trip, but it was another great time. We stayed at Valery’s house again in the deep dark woods of Neskowin (always cool) and Caden spent as much time as possible with Grandma (he loves him a sleep over). Lots of beach visits, couple of parades, some house projects and other festivities.
This year, we “enjoyed” the fireworks in Neskowin right on the beach. Perhaps not a great plan. There is simply no restrictions on what people can do on that beach. Fireworks were going off in every direction, and not just the small ones, professional grade mortar rounds too. So much so that we couldn’t tell when the real show started or ended. That being said, the kids still fell asleep. It was pretty cool and we have very little lung damage to show for it.
Another variation on this year’s trip was that Katy buckled down and worked out “the plan” for the future of the Kinneavy house. In a few short days, Katy worked out a realtor, landscapers, and worked out a plan to visit new potential living situations for her parents. It all worked out pretty well, nothing is done of course, but it is well on its way to something new.
In the mean-time we did some around the house maintenance including deck work and some trimming. I think we can hope, for now at least, that Kay won’t fall through the deck again!
The trip home was uneventful and the kids were rock-stars. Here are all the pictures. Good times.
A really fun tradition in the making; Fourth of July in Neskowin
