Memorial Day Weekend & Taste of Louisville

June 2, 201218 photos

Summer has officially arrived now that we’ve celebrated both Memorial Day and Louisville’s Annual Taste of Louisville.

We were thrilled to have Kevin (Katy’s brother) and his family join us all to celebrate Memorial Day. We avoided many of the traditional holiday events and enjoyed lots of get togethers and hikes. Normally we would have run the BolderBoulder 10k road race, a very large (read 50,000 runners) road race, but the last two years we have passed on it. Last year cause Jon was smashing his face into the ground in England and this year cause Jon was running a half-marathon the following Saturday in Louisville (also in this post).

With Kevin and family in town, we did some much taken-for-granted hiking in the foothills, awesome. We also enjoyed a concert in the park on a beautiful late summer evening. It really was a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.

The following weekend (this one) was our town’s annual Taste of Louisville. An even that kicks off the summer farmers market and Friday night street festivals. The town basically turns inside out and all the restaurants and stores open to the streets. Also included are the Touch-A-Truck event; a big parking load filled with every cool vehicle you can imagine (tractors, buses, firetrucks, ambulances, helicopters, trash-trucks, etc.). Anyone with a little boy can truly appreciate the brilliance of this event. Caden was in pure heaven. AND, the 3rd annual Taste Half-Marathon was run the morning of this great day. Jon decided to run it ignoring his better judgement (or only judgement at least). It is great because it runs in front of our house twice and stays in our home town. It wasn’t so great cause Jon is still limping on a bad knee. Anyway, awesome time. This is simply the Best Small Town in the Country (SEE HERE!).
