Molly 6 Months
Its hard to believe our little lady is already six months old. Over the past month Molly has continued to change and grow. She finally has just moved into her 3--6 month clothes which is good to see. At her six month check up Molly was deemed short & skinny with a big ‘ol head. She weighed in at 14.1 lbs--25th %ile, is 24”-- 10th %ile and a 17” head 80th %ile! Definitely a Chapman baby.
This month Molly has really started to enjoy her toys. She LOVES, LOVES, LOVES the Jonny Jump Up. Her and Caden spend lots of time with her jumping in there and him telling her how to jump or “helping” her with her toys. Often this ends with one or both of them crying as he accidentally smashes a toy on her head or hand but its still very cute to see. To see Molly and Caden in action together check out the video below.
Molly has also started to sit up on her own and is exploring her surroundings more and more. Once we put her in a sitting position she can sit there for about 5 minutes. She seems to love seeing her toys from this new position. But when that big head knocks her off balance and she falls...whew does she get MAD! Molly loves to touch and eat pretty much anything she sees...peoples faces, hair, napkins...anything. She finds it all very interesting and fun--especially when she can lean way back and see and grab things. She can almost get her head to touch her feet by leaning back...impressive. She also loves to grab her feet any time they’re exposed and growl, babble, laugh scream and JUMP, JUMP & JUMP!
Eating is another big excitement for Molly. She now eats rice, oatmeal, barley and at six months we added in carrots. She is thrilled with every new addition to her diet. On Valentines Caden gave Molly some teething biscuits. She was delighted to have something to feed herself. With all the eating Molly has also learned how to spit and when she spits with various food in her mouth this is all the more exciting. Caden and I keep trying to teach her not to do this...but so far she still thinks its a very impressive new trick.
Molly’s dairy allergy continues to be a struggle for us. So far we’re still sticking with breast feeding but 6+ months into this no dairy thing Molly is just as sensitive when I have ANY dairy even a dime size piece of cheese or get this a “dairy free” probiotic supplement which as it turns out is processed with milk. When I have any dairy at all (even unbeknownst to me) we immediately know by her being fussy and then she spits up continually for 3 or 4 days afterwards. With our doctors suggestions we’re contemplating taking her off of breast milk and putting her on formula. The catches here are 1) she won’t take a bottle so we’ll have some serious issues making the switch and 2) she also seems to be sensitive to soy formula so she would have to go on a special very expensive formula :( But of course if it helps her it will be worth it...we just have to get brave enough to try.
Sleep continues to be a battle in our house. We were so lucky with Caden we never fully grasped how horrible being sleep deprived for 6+ months is. Now we know. Other than a few “miracle moments” Molly hasn’t slept for more than three hours her ENTIRE life. So we decided to do sleep training. Thanks to some helpful tips from friends we were quite successful and she slept for 6 hours straight one night...then we went out of town and that screwed everything up. Now we’re back to square one or -1 or -3 who can tell I’m too tired to know. We’re now planning on staying put and work on sleep for the next month or so in hopes of not being sleep deprived by our 7 month update.
