Our 4 Month old

We’ve made it to four months--Yippee! Its been a long four months but things are consistently getting better each and every day. Molly has become a much happier baby--she is a true delight!

At her four month check-up she weighed in at 12lbs (25th%ile), is now 23 1/2” (25th%ile) & being a Chapman has a head that is 16 1/2” (75th%ile). She is small but very healthy.

This month she has really changed a lot. She enjoys playing independently now--& LOVES her ExerSaucer, Bumbo and activity gym. She reaches out for toys, chews on them and also LOVES chewing her hands. She really likes to show people all of her tricks too. She will give you a stare down if you’re not noticing her fancy moves...like sucking her hands or spinning her toy. Of course she also really likes playing with people. She has started laughing and if you get her going she’ll laugh and laugh. Her big brother continues to be her favorite playmate. They spend a lot of time playing together with her toys or laying in his bed looking at all of his “guys” (stuffed animal friends) or airplanes that hang from his ceiling. Molly is starting to get more aware of new people. Generally she still likes everyone she meets and loves the attention from everyone but more and more she’s wanting to make sure that her Mommy is close by.

Molly also continues to be VERY opinionated and she lets you know it. She knows what she wants and when she wants it and will scream her head off if she doesn’t like what’s happening. Some of the things she likes normally include being held, playing with toys, being naked on the bath mat, being in new places & listening to music. Some of the things she REALLY dislikes include RIDING IN THE CAR, GOING IN THE STROLLER & BOTTLES. For all of these activities she SCREAMS and she can scream very loud for a LONG time to make her point if necessary. Also not on her “like list” is sun, rain, snow, wind or loud noises.

At our four month appointment we got the go ahead to give Molly rice cereal. We’re hoping this will help keep her full and make it so Mommy can leave her longer without knowing that she’ll starve herself while Mom is gone. Our first try with the cereal didn’t go well...she was too hungry. But after nursing well we tried again and she really liked it. This is encouraging!!!

Molly’s acid reflux/infant massage study just ended as well. At the end of the study we were disappointed to find out that she didn’t get the massages. She was one of the “control babies” so they just held her during the treatments. We do get to learn about giving massage and Molly got one last week--she quite liked it so we’re definitely going to try and do that on her ourselves. Apparently they are finding that the massages don’t cure acid reflux but they help calm their hyper sensitive nervous systems that most acid reflux babies have.
