Our Big Boy

Three years old. Which means he was born three years ago. Three years he has been with us, growing, laughing, and learning. And that is just mommy and daddy. The last several months with Molly coming into our lives has been both fun and challenging at times for Caden. He seems to notice he is sharing the spotlight and that upsets him at times. But, all that aside, he is an amazing three year old. Really can’t think of anything he can’t do or at least isn’t trying to do. He eats nuts now, and is very proud of it. He is happy to tell everyone he is three and seems happy to stay here for the foreseeable future.

For his birthday party this year, mommy and daddy finally wised up and decided to have his party somewhere other than our house. We went to Pump It Up, a big indoor playground with jumpy castles, obstacle courses, and slides. Plus party rooms and everything needed to spoil a little boy. Caden was excited about his party for the many weeks leading up to the big day, which made it even more fun. The big decision to make was what kind of cake was Caden to have. Backyardigans? Firetruck? Buzz Lightyear? I know, sounds a lot like his Halloween costume choices. And like Halloween, Caden suggested Roomba again. This time we didn’t fold, a Roomba cake was just too easy and mommy has taken to challenging herself when it comes to baking. So we went with a firetruck made up of 60+ cupcakes. That is particularly funny because all we needed was about 25 cupcakes for the party. But that wouldn’t look impressive enough. So Kendra, Shae, Caden, and mommy spent the day baking and icing...about 7 hours in total to get it all done. A long time, though I think you will agree it was worth it (see below).

Caden also got a special treat at school. Everyone sang to him, he got a crown, presents from the teachers and lots of special attention. He was practically glowing.

The party went off without a hitch. Everyone had fun, Caden got lots of presents and insisted on many performances of “Happy Birthday”--even one last one right before bed. So now, we have a 3 year old. And so far, they make the terrible twos look simply delightful. No seriously, he is great, fun and all that. But wow, three.
