Gerry “Papa” Kinneavy
It is with tremendous sadness that we say good bye to Katy’s dad, Gerry today. He was Papa to our children and all 13 of his grandchildren (and 1 great grandchild!!). While the last couple of years spent on hospice were hard for the family and Gerry, he led an incredible life and left an impression on everyone who met him. In the short hours after his passing, notes poured in from Facebook from people we never met. Some who were his students at CU, and others who had the privilege of meeting him, if only briefly. Look no further then the six amazing kids Gerry and Kay gave the world to know the impact he left. They embody his kindness, charity, intelligence and humor. The humor is probably the best part. From a cross-dressing nun to the occasional shop-lifting, Even to the very end when he would take out full grocery displays with his scooter, Gerry could never fail to shock you.
Gerry was a professor of Shakespearian literature, an artist, a writer, a hospice chaplain, a figure skater judge, the life of the party, that guy who always dressers like a girl, the minister who could make you blush, a defier of all the odds, and last and most important someone we all admired and loved. We miss you badly today, but feel comfort that your pain is now gone and we look forward to celebrating your amazing life.
