Ankle: Blown
This isn’t Zoe’s fault initially. Running around in the open space across from our home and a (likely) poorly placed foot in a hole of some sort led to her first leg joint being blown out. She didn’t make a much a fuss, but she wouldn’t place any weight on it. So a visit to the vet, an X-ray, a surgery ($3,000), and 6 pins to fuse her ankle and we have a crippled dog for 12 weeks.
Recovery process is rough. No stairs or wooden floors...our house is all stairs and wooden floors. Pins will come out in 12 weeks. First week was rough: she has sutures, which, naturally, she chewed out twice ($140 x 2). The drugs she was on led to chronic constipation, so, two enemas ($130 x2). And we had to carpet the whole main floor ($120).
She is in the cone of shame for the forseeable future a sedative, back in the crate when we are gone and on the leash to go potty. Plus, she must be carried up/down all stairs. Sucks, but we are getting through it and her recovery should be 100%. Proof, she is family.
Yes, Zoe found herself in the cone of shame...for 3+ months
