Molly’s 4th Big Day
And here we are, another year, a few inches taller, and orders of magnitude more grown-up. It was in November of last year that Molly decided she would have a Frozen party (if you haven’t seen it then you can just stop reading now). First, quick party recap (all the pictures are here):
-The usual, 60+ people including 21+ kids in our little house
-All night cake prep - total disaster (in our eyes) though everyone else loved it. Sugar work is way hard
-Decorations custom built by Kendra (we had a few comments that our house was “elfed”)
-15 pizzas, too much cake
-Olaf Piñata
-Perfect day
-And a real life (hired) Princess Elsa!
Yep, total chaos and everyone had a blast. Molly had taken some issue with the hired Elsa, but she came around. It was totally fun having the entertainment.
And how about that four year old Molly? As I am sure I have said in every Christmas letter and birthday update about her, she is a handful. But a really wonderful handful. She continues to impress us with how smart she is. Take for example an incident at the party: She didn’t seem to be very happy with the guest Elsa. Someone suggested to me that it was because that maybe she felt it was taking attention away from her (she was also dressed as Elsa). So I told her over and over again that she was the prettiest one at the party. But after the party was over and I told her again she was the prettiest Elsa there, she stopped me. She said (and these are her words), “No daddy, its not that, I thought that Elsa was very pretty. I was just shy.” Just think about that...so perceptive.
What else? Molly is an active swimmer quickly making her way through the Swim America levels. She is starting her second year of pre-school, she loves her pets, loves food (except kid food, she hates that), loves to be outside and is really a lot of fun to be around. Except at night. Never, ever at night (sort of like a Gremlin). 4 years into this ride and she still hates sleeping and is often up in the middle of the night. These days, she is spending most nights in mommy and daddy’s room (boooo). Were hoping it is a phase, but we have been hoping that for awhile now and we are getting very, very tired waiting. But that’s the luck of the draw ‘spose. We got a kid who is a champion sleeper and a terrible eater and another who eats only the best foods and is likely nocturnal...couldn’t tell you from one day to the next which is worse.
She has all the tools to be a strong, successful women when she grows-up. And the Pediatrician assures us that because she is so difficult now, she will be a much easier teenager (I am guessing I will be kicking the Dr. in the pants in 10 years).
So, happy birthday Molly. We are so proud of you and can’t believe that every year you grow prettier, smarter, stronger and whole lot more stubborn. Love you Moose!
