Another Successful Holiday

December 25, 20131 photos

Okay so its February and I haven’t updated our holidays on this website. So much to what I am sure is everyone’s great disappointment, this is going to the cliff notes version with a bunch of un-captioned photos.

Great holiday season this year. Starting off with a first for me (Jon), I went black Friday shopping with Katy on Thursday night. First note, a big BOO to all the retailers out there who are using Thanksgiving as the start of the Xmas shopping season. Christmas already dominates the whole year...at least spare the smaller innocent holidays. Anyway, Katy and I had a great shopping evening. Got everything done on the cheap and most of the holidays headache was done before December.

Next we got the house decorated, tree bought, Xmas cards (here) made and sent out before week one in December ended. Only short-fall was not getting much lights out due to a mean cold snap that made the thought of going outside at all much less to hang lights insane.

Next big event of the holidays, my birthday. Awesome this year, left everyone behind except my exceptional wife and went to a Broncos game...which they lost. But it was still awesome. Since then of course the Broncos have lost the Superbowl so blah.

Next, Spirit Party. Fun as always. Maybe one day all those videos will post here, but until then it was another good showing from the family. Our little troupe did a performance from Frozen. And for the second time in his 6 short years, Caden took home Spirit King...shared with Sarah this year. He will be impossible to beat in the coming years.

Before Christmas and during the time a million other events usually happen, everyone got sick. Now this sounds bad, but I am thinking if you ask everyone now, they might say this brought the intensity of the holidays down and made it more relaxing for everyone. Not that this is the plan from now on, but maybe there is something to be gained by remembering the quiet time of the holidays!

Christmas morning comes and as always, it is lovely. Everyone came over to watch the Caden and Molly splurge show. Everyone got what they wanted and there were smiles all around. As an added activity this year, I got Katy a new faucet and shower kit for the upstairs bathroom which I have been meaning to rebuild for quite some time now...how long? We have had the tile for the project for 2 years now. To be funny, I included a hammer and goggles in the kit to imply I mean to start this project right away. To teach me to never be funny again, Katy promptly ran upstairs and slammed a hole in the bathroom wall which I am only now getting near finishing (remember, it s February).

Christmas dinner was again at the Porter’s...a good time with everyone including Kevin, Jo, Julian and Dylan. This was a good holiday season; something for everyone and everyone with us. Here are all the pictures (click)
