Sonoma California 2012
It is a rare occasion that Katy and I get away on our own for a few hours, much less a few days. But once again we were reminded not to take for granted all the family we have living close to us. We took advantage of their kindness and left the state for 4 days! Thanks also to our friends Robert and Courtney who were planning a trip to Sonoma for some wine tasting and foolishly invited us to go along! That is exactly the excuse we needed!
What a perfect trip it was too. This is the first time Katy and I took a plane ride together without kids since I can remember. As much as I love traveling with the kids, it is nice being the people without the kids. Although I dumped my drink in my lap...that has never happened with the kids. We landed in BEAUTIFUL San Francisco in the morning. Ironic since when we visited in July it was cold, windy and cloudy and now in February it was high 70’s and perfect! Enjoyed lunch, walked across the Golden Gate and back and headed to Sonoma.
Sonoma was perfect too. We spent out time wandering around the town and enjoying the weather. A particular highlight was spending the better part of Friday at a spa in a nice hotel in the middle of a “jungle”. We worked out, had lunch pool-side, had a couple’s massage and spent the rest of the day alternating between swimming, the hot-tub, and the steam room. It was therapeutic on every level.
Saturday we met up with Robert and Courtney and spent the day doing what you do in Sonoma; wine. Had a tour of several vineyards, from small to large and every varietal. Finished it off with a nice dinner downtown...and more drinking. It was a great day.
Sunday we packed our wares and headed back to SF for a crab lunch...cause that is what we wanted. Then we were back home in time to kiss Caden goodnight. It was a great trip for us parents and the kids didn’t make us pay too dearly for it!
After lots and lots of wine tasting. We forgot who came with who...
