Labor Day fun, Get-Aways, Squash and the First Day of School
Lots of fun things in the course of a short holiday week(end). First (and maybe the best) was Katy and I FINALLY got away from the kids for more than an handful of hours. I bought Katy tickets to see Les Miserables for Christmas last year (yes for a performance 10 months later). It was going to be our goal that this weekend would be the first we get away from both kids for an extended period (two nights!!!!!!). We pulled it off too. With help from our family and a lot of work in the proceeding months with Molly, Katy and I had an amazing weekend in Denver with good food, fun and SOOO much sleep. It was shocking to us that we hadn’t had an overnight without the kids in over two years...plenty of dates, but no full days. There are no pictures of this weekend, and we are good with that.
Next was the rest of the weekend. We got home Sunday afternoon and IMMEDIATELY grabbed the kids and sprinted off to a birthday party at Sunflower Farms. Now it may sound like no fun to go from totally relaxation to back in the mix in no seconds at all, but it was a lot of fun. There are pictures of this event.
We also harvested a first round of our first kind of winter squash. 13 spaghetti squash, and many more of that type and others to come.
Following that, we headed to the Louisville Labor Day parade. Always a good time. Even if it was a little slow this year.
And finally, a couple days later, Caden started back to school. This is his second year and he is up to three days a week for three hours each..almost twice as long as last year. He handled it with mixed emotions. There were some tears, and nervousness...and that was just mom. Caden had some of the same, but ultimately enjoyed his day. If you will remember last year (click here), this was a dramatic improvement. And he had a rocking hair do this time. It was his idea too. He said, “I want to have a mohawk with color so I look extra cool for my friends and teachers.” And he did. See the interview too!
Go Labor Day!
