Caden 3 & 4 months
Our little man Caden has definitely changed a lot recently so we thought it deserved an entry. Not only does he seem to be growing like a weed at times, but he is learning new things, changing constantly and says the funniest things.
Being almost 3 1/2 he’s definitely showing his age. He is sassy, defiant, very strong willed & loud. BUT, he is also HILARIOUS, talks incessantly and LOVES his sister. There are many days when it seems like he literally doesn’t stop talking for the entire day. Even when he goes down for his rest time I hear him in his room having conversations the entire time. He has also seemed to develop his own language recently so a good 50% of what he says isn’t even real words and he thinks its really funny! He LOVES to be funny. He sings funny songs (only in one volume LOUD), falls to get a laugh and tries to say funny things for a laugh. Its very cute. One of his favorite people to show off for is Molly and he ALWAYS gets a good laugh from her.
I am happy to say that finally we are to the point where he is really enjoying school--looking forward to it in fact. He has started making friends there and even had his first play date with Wes a little boy from school over spring break. From the little snippets he tells us he seems to play more and more each time and we think he behaves well there which is good. Recently they’ve been studying shapes and he now knows his basic shapes in addition to octagon's, pentagons and ovals. Pretty impressive. He also can now spell his name, write a C, and recognize 1-5 and several letters.
Puzzles have been a favorite activity of Caden’s for quite some time but recently its become almost an obsession. He spends a good chunk of his day doing puzzles and he’s good at them. He can now do 30+ piece puzzles all by himself! He also loves playing pretend. Its a different pretend game almost every day but some of the favorites include being firemen on a fire truck, being a candy truck driver and a tractor driver--do you see a theme here? We have also been talking a lot recently about being healthy and what that means so he is very interested in getting his exercise each day (see video) and talking about healthy food. Generally he still doesn’t like most healthy food but he talks about it so that’s an improvement! Caden also really enjoys cooking. He loves to cook almost anything and he’s getting really good at it. Almost every time he goes to Grandma’s they cook chocolate cookies together and at home some of his favorites include making pancakes, french toast, banana bread and decorating cakes with mommy.
Its been a long time since we’ve done an activity other then school so we decided it was finally time to get ourselves out of the house more and get Caden into a bike class (thanks Karen, Mark & Grandpa David!) The class is a “strider” class where they only use balance bikes and he loves it. They go around on a couple different courses, over teeter-totters, across ramps, and over bumps and generally have a great time! This is the first time that Caden has shown a little more independence and he does this class all on his own and is totally fine with it! Yeah!
Three has always been a favorite age of mine and despite all of the challenges that come along with being a three-year-old’s mom, it still is. Caden is a joy to be around and we all love having fun together as a family! It seems almost every time I’ve nearly reached my limit of his naughtiness he does something hilarious that makes it all better and worthwhile! His joy for life is definitely contagious.
