Grand Lake

You would think with us living in the Rocky Mountain state, we might actually spend some time in the Rocky Mountains. Sadly, this is not the case. We have spent more days in foreign countries this year then we have in the mountains the past couple of years. So, on a whim, we packed the kid, dog, grandma, and entirely too many bags into the car and headed for Grand Lake on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. What a great idea!

A perfect drive, aside from the crowds, through the park over Trail Ridge Road. Spent the whole day walking the boardwalks of Grand Lake, listening to live music, playing in the water, and enjoying a picnic and ice cream. It was a blast.

And it was a great wildlife viewing day too! We saw multiple herds of Elk, Mule Deer, Dahl Sheep, Marmots, and...wait for it...a MOOSE!!!! Why is that a big deal? Because up until this day, Katy firmly believed that Moose were fictional animals. After living for years in Northern Montana and not seeing a moose though she was promised that they are ALWAYS around, and after living the rest of her life in Colorado where they are not uncommon with the same disappointment, she just assumed they were a big lie, just like elephants.

But there it was, a moose. And just like that, one of the underlying themes of our entire relationship was over. Moose are real.
