4th of July
We were all looking forward to the 4th of July weekend. Three days of good weather, fireworks and BBQ. Of course, that is not quite how things went down. We had plenty of fun of course. Saturday was perfect weather, we spent most of it inside working on the house of course, but that was still fun.
Sunday was the 4th, we had tickets to go to the Colorado Rapids Game (professional soccer). Really looking forward to it. Caden loves soccer and the stadium puts on one of the bigger fireworks shows. But, of course, the weather was in serious doubt. Cloudy skies all day with a promise of bad storms right in time for the fireworks. But whatever, this is Colorado. Storms come and go pretty fast. We were prepared to go to the game, get a little wet, then watch the big show...Oh no, not this night. Questionable weather when we got there, then a big rain, and then it passed. We thought we were good to go. Not so. We saw the biggest darkest clouds approach us around half-time. It rained harder the
n anything in recent memory. And not only lots of rain, but it never let up. Almost 4 hours of a continuous deluge.
But we stuck it out! And the show did go on...no one was left, and we were wet and miserable, but it was a great show. Ended up slopping it back to the car in the middle of a mud field and watched the rest of the show from there.
Caden was amazing, he had a great time regardless of the cold, wet, long and loud hours outside. One particular poignant memory from that night will be when I (daddy) was holding Caden huddled with thousands of other soccer fans under what precious little roof we could find. Caden spied some mini doughnuts being made not far from us and decided he wanted some. He kept saying “I want doughnuts! I want doughnuts!” But I wasn’t paying attention...too busy looking around for the weather to break and trying to keep tabs of everyone else while being elbowed and pushed by the huddled masses. So after about 3 minutes of asking for doughnuts without me giving him a response, he grabbed my face with both hands, yank my head around so my eyes were looking right into his, and he said “I WANT DOUGHNUTS”, very firmly....exactly how we might address him when he is ignoring us...how could I say no?
And of course the next day was gorgeous again. Had a lovely day of not doing much and enjoying the yard!
