Four Months!
We got through a successful European vacation at the start of Katy’s second trimester. This trip was suppose to be the last big fling before thinking about getting pregnant...oh yeah right, like you were planned! All has been well for the first four months, in retrospect. We really went up and down learning the inns and outs of being pregnant. The reality is, there is no such thing as normal when it comes to having a baby. We had some scares early on which turned out to be “normal”...whatever that means. The first scare of course was finding out we were pregnant. Pregnancy tests are a funny thing, it says pee on this and in two minutes, you will know. Truth is, if you are pregnant it takes about 2 seconds for that plus to show up...no time whatsoever to prepare yourself. Not being a sucker for a mere 99.9% accurate test, we went ahead and bought two more different tests. One blue plus, two pink lines, and a solid digital “pregnant” later, we were ready to accept the fact we were pregnant. YEAH!!!!
Today was the fifth baby appointment. Heard the heartbeat again, 160bpm and lots of movement, I sense this kid is going to be a handful. Also did the Quad-Screen, this test checks for spinal defects (Downs Syndrome and the like). The test has a 20% chance of producing false positives and a slightly less chance of producing false negatives. And the reality is, if the results are good or bad, there is not much that would change. Yet another test to do nothing but scare nervous parents.
